Working climate

Schedules are usually strict and must be respected.
Indians are patient during business negotiations.
English is used for doing business, but an interpreter should be used to ensure that there are no language-related misunderstandings.
They have traditional values but are also very up-to-date in terms of new technologies.
Trust plays an essential role in business (far more than concrete examples).
Greet your contact by shaking hands and never use first-names as these are only used by close relations.
Be well dressed: suit and tie.
Shaking hands at the end of negotiations constitutes an agreement.
Sending documents to your contact before the meeting will save time.

What to do and what not to do

Good humour during business is appreciated.

Trends

Indians are demanding with regards foreign products because they pay the price.
They compare foreign products with other similar products.
Indians appreciate having technical documentation about the company and its products (data sheets etc.). It would be good form to provide these in English.
