Volontariat International en Entreprise - International Volunteers in Business.

Description

This measure enables French companies to expatriate young French voluntary workers (men and women) from 18 to 28 years old to work in their offices abroad. The VIE scheme can be used by a group of businesses in order to share costs and work-time between the group members.

Types of operations

VIE workers can be assigned business-oriented or technical missions by the company according to needs (market research, prospecting, on-site team support, etc.). They can be sent to more than one country, with a maximum of eight countries. VIE profiles can be adapted to suit the company's needs.

The VIE mission period is flexible, varying from 6 to 24 months (the average duration is 17 months).

VIE workers can be employed on a company-share or full-time basis. A company-share VIE means that the VIE services and costs can be shared between several companies. The company can train the VIE in its product range and its company image before the mission abroad. The VIE stays in France 165 days per year only. A 10-day period every month of the mission is authorised abroad, according to the company's requirements. This period must not exceed 20 days.

Aid proposed

- Ubifrance provides a fast, flexible and simple human-resources solution to enable companies to win market shares internationally.

- French businesses using VIE services are exonerated from social contributions in France.

- SMEs can benefit from a significant tax credit for exports: this credit applies to French companies aiming to reduce expenditure associated to exploring foreign markets. It is limited to 80,000€. To be entitled, artists must be registered in the Trade directory and must recruit an employee with an open-ended contract, a fixed-term contract, a CNE (New Recruitment Contract) or a VIE contract etc.

Expenditure

The VIE budget includes wages for the VIE, which vary according to country between 1,100€ to 3,000€, administration fees and social security contributions (175€ to 375€ depending on the turnover and number of VIEs employed), travel expenses, luggage transportation costs and expenses associated to the type of mission (travel, office operations etc.)

The VIE benefits from full social security protection.

Procedure and contact info

To submit a VIE request in France, please complete an application for authorisation. The forms can be downloaded from the Ubifrance site: www.ubifrance.fr in the "V.I.E." section. This also provides further information on VIE projects and a tool for estimating the yearly cost of a mission.

To submit a VIE request outside France, the company (subsidiary or other) will need to address their request to the French company so that they can submit the application to Ubifrance.
