Exhibiting at trade fairs
Exhibiting at trade fairs is essential, despite the initial investment that doing so entails. They provide a perfect environment for:
•Prospecting.
•Testing the foreign market in terms of trends and product positioning.
•Making contacts.
•Creating a business network.
•Acquiring practical export-related experience.
Before the fair
Select a stand with good exposure.
Exhibit as part of a group in a French pavilion, this is highly beneficial for exporting in terms of profitability: "Sharing a stand in a group of ten exhibitors is great, it is far less costly than exhibiting alone. This method is extremely worthwhile for Very Small Enterprises, which generally operate on tight budgets."
Prepare brochures in French and in foreign languages (at least in English).
Invite special customers to the stand, they will generally reply to the invitation. This is a good way of building loyalty - the company and its professionalism will be remembered.
After the fair
Sending out small gifts of gratitude, such as catalogues, samples and documentation, is a good way of following-up a volatile and spontaneous clientele.
